Beginning of the fortieth Psalm:
“I waited patiently for the Lord;
    he turned to me and heard my cry.
2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
    out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock
    and gave me a firm place to stand.
3 He put a new song in my mouth,
    a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear the Lord
    and put their trust in him.
4 Blessed is the one
    who trusts in the Lord”

It is hard to imagine a more vivid description of the life without God and the
life with God. God lifts us from the muck and mire and draws our feet out
of the slimy pit into which they had sunken.

God lifts us out of the slime and puts our feet securely on solid rock, clean
and dry and pure.

God gives us a firm place to stand.God hears our cry and delivers us. When life throws its worst at us and
when we feel ensnared and cannot free ourselves, to him we turn and we
are set free, delivered, and from our mouths flow his praise.
