Spiritual Gifts Discovery Groups
“It was he who gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, and some as Pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, that is, to build up the body of Christ until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God—a mature person, attaining to the measure of Christ’s full stature.”
According to scripture, God has given each man and woman one or more spiritual gifts. In 2008, we held several “Spiritual Gifts Discovery Groups”, first for our Consistory. Elders and Deacons then helped lead discovery groups for other members of our congregation. The goal was to help people discover the gifts given to each one of them by God through the work of the Holy Spirit. Coupled with their passions, we helped them figure out in what types of ministry they would be most effective. Interpretations of each spiritual gift and ways that those gifts could be translated in service within the church were explored. Participants then completed a form indicating where in our church they feel called to serve. This information was later organized by committee and distributed to each committee chairperson so that they would have a resource of people interested in their committee’s work.
The survey used to profile a person’s spiritual gifts that was completed by all participants can be accessed here: Spiritual Gifts Self-Assessment.
There is a plan to continue with more Spiritual Gifts Discovery Groups for both new members and for those who were unable to attend one of the original groups as well as having follow-up sessions for those who have already participated. Please contact our church office at (908) 359-3391 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
We hope you will join us in a future group and in the meantime, try out the above survey and discover what your gifts are!
