ďLet the teaching of Christ live in you richly. Use all wisdom to
teach and instruct each other by singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God.Ē
The mission of the Christian Education Committee is to provide opportunities for learning and growth. The committee supports a wide range of programs so everyone can find the experience they are looking for. The church offers both Sunday School and Vacation Bible School programs. Bible studies provide an opportunity to join in fellowship to study Godís Word. Groups meet at times that work with different schedules and cover a variety of topics from the Bible. We believe that Christian education begins at an early age and continues all our lives. HRC offers Christian education opportunities starting at age 3. Classes are held on Sunday morning from September through May. There are also young adult and adult classes.
Sunday School Program
The Sunday School Program is staffed by dedicated and caring teachers. Our teachers love working with kids. They are experienced and enthusiastic in bringing the Word to their classes. There are opportunities to get involved as a teacher which can be a very rewarding way to serve. We are always looking for ways to make the stories of the Bible come alive for the children. In past years, we have presented a musical Christmas pageant. This is a lot of work but everyone has a great time.
The Adult Sunday School Program provides a time of fellowship over coffee and bagels. The class takes up challenging subjects of interest to adults of faith. Learning through discussion and sharing individual experiences, the class meets at 9:00 AM each Sunday. All are welcome to join in the fellowship and discussion.
Bible studies provide an opportunity to join in fellowship to study Godís Word. Groups meet at times that work with different schedules and cover a variety of topics from the Bible. Womenís Bible Study meets in the evening and groups meet Tuesday nights and Wednesdays at noon for a guided tour of the Bible.
The season of Lent is a time for reflection on the sacrifice that Christ made for each of us. It is a time to gather to renew our faith through learning and fellowship. Throughout the season of Lent, the Christian Education Committee offers opportunities to hear invited speakers on topics related to the season leading up to the most holy day of the year. The programs are held on Wednesday evenings and include time for sharing refreshments or a pot-luck supper. Lenten Devotions are collected giving everyone an opportunity to share their favorite readings to reflect upon during the season of Lent. During the season of Advent, the Christian Education Committee has sponsored the making of Advent wreaths. On a Sunday just before Advent, we gathered to make the wreaths; all materials were provided. Families worked together to create a beautiful centerpiece for their home. It was a great time for parents to instruct their children on the meaning of Christmas.
Confirmation classes prepare young women and men for adult Christian living. The class is intended for ninth graders but others are always welcome. Led by Pastor Fred, the class meets each Sunday morning starting in September and going through Confirmation Sunday in May at which time they affirm their faith. Confirmands select a sponsor who becomes a mentor during this time and beyond. The class has gone on retreats and taken trips. Confirmands are required to do Christian service projects and this is an important part of their Christian education.
Vacation Bible School
VBS is a highlight of the summer for many of our young people. We offer a one week program for kids ages 3 to 12 with activities, crafts, and music centered around a theme that all can relate to. There are opportunities to join in by teaching a class or leading activities.
We provide adult supervision for little ones during regular worship services.
HRC maintains a library of Christian books and videos for use at Church and at home. You can find a complete, searchable listing of our library holdings on the church library page.
